Emmy’s Organics was founded over 10 years ago in a home kitchen in 2009. We have created many different products over the past decade, some better known than others. We’re throwing it back and going through our “products of the past” and giving you a look back at our early packaging. Plus, our Co-Founder, Samantha, will be chiming in on why these products were discontinued so you can understand a little more about how these important business decisions are made.
If you’ve been following us from the very start, you’ll likely fondly remember these products. If you only know us by the coconut cookies you see on the shelf today, buckle up and get to know us better!
Chocolate Sauce (Early 2012-Summer 2016)
This richly luscious dark chocolate sauce was heavenly when drizzled over raw fruit, ice-cream, blended into smoothies, or even enjoyed straight from the jar. It was sweet and delicious.Made with just 4 ingredients, including the super antioxidant cacao, our chocolate sauce was a delicious finish to any meal, and we miss it so.
Samantha: The chocolate sauce was amazing but not a super fast-seller. What was the most challenging was the manufacturing and shipping of the product. The glass jars were scary to ship and the product was just super heavy. In the end it really came down to logistics and it just didn’t make sense anymore.
Super Cereal (Feb 2014-Fall 2016)
Our Super Cereal was super unique and had a base of sprouted buckwheat that was lightly sweetened with coconut sugar. Each flavor was incorporated superfoods in them like cacao nibs, coconut chips and wild blueberries.
The Super Cereal was high in fiber and it was sprouted which allows for easier digestion. It was great on its own or made an amazing topper to yogurt or oatmeal. We sure do miss Super Cereal!
Samantha: The Super Cereal was a fun product! For a long time we did the sprouting and drying of the buckwheat...it took up to two days for it to dry so it took up space in our dryers and we didn’t have room for cookies! We eventually found another producer to do the sprouting and drying for us. The price on the shelf was a bit higher than other granolas and we didn’t have the funds to be able to put it on sale at that time. It didn’t sell super well and ordering the materials and packaging just didn’t make sense anymore. Also, in the end, we’re known for our treats and we knew that we didn’t want to be a cereal company.
Discontinued Coconut Cookie Flavors
Even though there is love for every single flavor we produce, some just don’t stand the test of time: Raspberry (Late 2015-Mid 2018). Our Radiant flavors, Matcha and Golden Milk (2018-2019). Also, when we first started making our “Macaroons” there were 7 different flavors available! This included flavors like Chai Spice, Mint Chip and Coco Chili that you won’t find for sale today.
Samantha: Of course, it's sad to see flavors go but what we’ve learned over the years is that you need to focus on what’s working. If you have a lot of “niche” flavors, a retailer might put them on the shelf because the are different, but ultimately they are not going to sell as fast as “classic” flavors such as vanilla and chocolate. We are committed to being a brand that EVERYONE can enjoy (not just people who love niche flavors) and we want all of our flavors to be winners. Otherwise, the expense of purchasing packaging and raw materials for products that don’t sell gets to be too much for a small business. TOP SECRET: Our Seasonal Pumpkin Spice flavor is almost a replica of our Chai Spice flavor of the past...
See some of our old packaging below!
It's so crazy to see how far we’ve come!
We hope that you enjoyed our walk through time looking at flavors and products of the past! If you ever have any suggestions or questions you are welcome to comment below or send us a DM on instagram! Also, there is yet ANOTHER change in our packaging coming in 2020 that we can’t wait to show you guys! Stay tuned!
We thought we would take a minute to shed some light on the story of our Coconut Cookies, the original product line that Emmy’s launched with in 2009. Made with a short list of organic, non-GMO and vegan ingredients, our Coconut Cookies satisfy the need for a snack, dessert or just a healthy treat!
The idea to start Emmy’s Organics all started with the Coconut Cookie. Co-Founder, Ian, had created the recipe out of a need for himself. Because of a health condition, Ian had to cut certain irritants out of his diet such as gluten, dairy and soy to name a few. So he created a super simple cookie made from coconut, almond flour and coconut oil to satisfy his sweet tooth. When he taught the recipe to Samantha (our other Co-Founder), they knew they had something special.
SHORT INGREDIENT LISTS
More and more people are flipping products around to look at their ingredient lists and we could not be happier. Simplicity is what it’s all about for us. “You want to fully understand every ingredient in all of your food,” says Co-Founder, Samantha. “If there is something that you can’t pronounce, that should be a red flag.” Our Coconut Cookies are made with eight ingredients or less and we are proud of that.
CERTIFIED ORGANIC & NON GMO
Quality is one of the main reasons why our Coconut Cookies are “Not Your Average Cookie.” Not only are our Coconut Cookies simple in ingredients but each ingredient is certified organic and non-GMO. This is to ensure the best quality and sourcing for our products...and it comes through in the flavor. Organic and Non-GMO ingredients not only taste better, but they are better for the environment.
HEALTHY FATS
Is it possible to love a fat more than we love coconut oil? Our Coconut Cookies are made with cold pressed organic extra virgin coconut oil. Coconut oil is the only plant based source of saturated fat that actually does the body good. With its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, cannot get enough. And did we mention it’s delicious?!
ANYTIME, ANYWHERE
Our Coconut Cookies satisfy a number of different needs from a topping to an on-the-go snack. Try crumbling our cookies on your smoothie or yogurt bowl. Throw a bag in your backpack or gym bag for some delicious plant-based energy mid-day. Or, keep a bag or two in your cupboard for an upgraded clean dessert. Oh, and have you seen the amazing recipes on our blog?! There are a number of ways that our Coconut Cookies can be enjoyed and we are here for it!
JUST DELICIOUS
Sure, our Coconut Cookies are simply made with high quality ingredients. But isn’t taste the name of the game? “The ultimate goal with our Cookies is to deliver on texture and flavor FIRST,” says Samantha. “The health benefits and clean ingredients are an added bonus.” Where would we be if our Cookies didn’t taste good?
Our Coconut Cookies are available in Dark Cacao, Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter and Lemon Ginger. Want even more?! Check out our website for specific ingredient information or to order online. Or, see our Store Locator to find our cookies in a store near you!

Halloween shouldn’t be a holiday of food fears! Be sure to enjoy some candy if that’s your thing, but remember that you have healthier options at home. Stocking your pantry with our Chocolate Covered Coconut Cookie Bites is a surefire way to get your chocolate fix without stressing over ingredients. You can pronounce all of the ingredients in our Bites, which is more than you can say about other coconut confectionaries. Don’t want to eat any candy that night? Pop a bag or two in your jack-o-lantern to snack on all night. You’ll feel just as satisfied, but without the crazy sugar crash.
DIY Halloween Hack: Cookie Spiders
It’s no secret that Halloween candy is high in sugar, fat and calories and provides little nutritional value. If you’re looking for a creative treat for your friends or little ones to enjoy that is nutritional and free from refined sugars and chemicals, we have the perfect easy recipe for you!
One of the quickest and least messy Halloween creations we have seen to date are @laurenlashway’s No Bake Spider Snacks! All you need are 2 6oz bags of Emmy’s Classic Coconut Cookies in your flavor of choice, a bag of pretzels, and “eyes” (find these at the craft store or improvise with some dried currants!). First, take a pretzel twist and break it into equal-sized pieces for the legs. Then lightly push these “legs” into the top of an Emmy’s Coconut Cookie, about 6 legs should fit in total. Add on the eyes and voila! The perfect guilt-free Halloween treat. Serve with banana “ghosts” and some warm apple cider, yum!
Spread the #CleanCookie Love
If you’re looking for a healthier treat to pass out to the ghosts and goblins in your neighborhood, look no further than our individually wrapped Coconut Cookies. Each box contains 24 delicious, clean cookies! These cookies are sure to delight both parents and children alike with amazing, indulgent flavor!

EVERYTHING’S BETTER CHOCOLATE COVERED
As everyone familiar with Emmy’s Organics knows, earlier this year we took something great and made it even better. We noticed that Emmy’s lovers all over Instagram were covering our Classic Coconut Cookies in dark chocolate and we figured, why not do the hard work for you?
In April, we began hinting at the launch of a new product. This mystery sparked interest and the hype surrounding a new product grew and grew. We were thrilled about being able to offer something different while retaining extremely high snack standards and our mission of delivering gluten free, vegan, guilt-free, organic treats. After weeks of dodging DM’s and curving comments, big news came in the form of a new line from Emmy’s and our Chocolate Covered Coconut Cookie Bites hit shelves in May.
IT’S ALL ABOUT INGREDIENTS
Our Chocolate Covered Bites are currently available in two flavors: Peanut Butter and Mint. The Peanut Butter flavor is made of bite sized pieces our classic peanut butter coconut cookie dough covered in dark chocolate. The final product reminds us of a peanut butter cup! The Mint is a new flavor for us. We use organic peppermint oil to create the fresh minty cookie dough before its covered in dark chocolate. We added a little bit of spirulina to create the vibrant green color. Can anyone say, peppermint patty?! Both flavors are made using dark, coconut-sugar sweetened, fair trade chocolate and they are both pretty amazing.
Excited to try them? Our Chocolate Covered Coconut Cookie Bites can be found in retailers near you such as Whole Foods, Wegmans and Big Y stores and can also be found on our website. We cannot wait for you to get your hands on them, this line was inspired by you.
Over the past few years, we have grown up as a company. From hand scooping coconut cookies in my (life+biz) partner, Ian’s, mom’s kitchen to now selling our products in stores nationwide, our company looks nothing like it did when we first started. What has remained is the passion that drove us to make decadent treats more simplified and a constant desire to keep learning and getting better. We have always featured recipes on our website and don’t get us wrong, we LOVE recipes. But lately, there has been a desire for more. More of a platform to explore topics that we care about. So, The Crumb was born. Here you will still find recipes and a whole lot more. Like, information on some of the organic ingredients we use, a deeper look at the behind the scenes of running a company like ours and a look inside the lives of some of our beloved community. Here at Emmy’s we like to think that we’re “Not Your Average Cookie” and we’re excited to show you why.
We are beyond grateful to have you on this journey with us and we can’t wait to show you what we have in store.
With love,
Samantha, Co-Founder
]]>Tell us how you first got into your current career?
I started ELW as a fun passion project. I always loved to cook and bake, and I had just recently began to find ways to make things healthier. By documenting them on Instagram and on a blog, people started following along and even making my recipes. Things started to take off from there and that allowed me to leave my corporate job to pursue my business full time!
Give us an example of what makes you Not Your Average Cookie?
I am the ONLY redhead in my entire family... and I swear I'm not adopted!! Also, I literally like every single food in the world except blue cheese.
We are all about simplicity. Can you tell us a life hack or tip that helps simplify your life?
Well, simplicity I'd have to say decanting all of my pantry items. Everything from granola, to nuts, to flours - it has made my pantry look so put together and organized. No messy boxes or bags. But for just one of my favorite hacks ever: putting oatmeal or yogurt into an almost totally empty peanut butter jar... there is so much goodness left over and it makes the best breakfast!
We gotta know, what’s your favorite Emmy’s product and why?
The chocolate covered mint + the chocolate covered peanut butter. don't make me pick between the two!
What something coming up for you that you’re excited about?
Well...I haven't told anyone this yet... but I'm training for a marathon. I decided to keep it to myself for a while because I seem to always get injured whenever I start training for something, so wanted to keep it to myself until I was 100% sure. I'm only 90% sure right now... but hey! It's out there.
