The Environmental Impact:
Approximately 10 billion animals (chickens, cattle, hogs, ducks, turkeys, lambs and sheep) are raised and killed in the US annually. Nearly all of them are raised on factory farms under inhumane conditions. These industrial farms are also dangerous for their workers, pollute surrounding communities, are unsafe to our food system and contribute significantly to global warming. Raising animals for food is also extremely inefficient. For every pound of food that farmed animals are fed, only a fraction of the calories are returned in the form of edible flesh. By eliminating our factory farmed meat consumption we can help end world hunger.
The Health Impact:
Not only is eating meat and dairy dangerous due to the growing number of foodborne illnesses such as e.coli and salmonella, but it sticks with you in a bad way. Meat and dairy are high is cholesterol and saturated fat which create plaque inside of your arteries. This can cause scary diseases including heart disease and even cancer. By eliminating these foods from your diet, you get the opportunity to incorporate more disease-fighting foods such as vegetables, sea vegetables, fruits and superfoods!
