We are extremely careful about what we use for our packaging because we are committed to reducing the amount of waste we are producing in the world. Why? Because mishandled waste goes into a landfill. Nothing breaks down in a landfill and the more that goes into a landfill, more landfills will be created. More landfills equals less nature, more toxins and gases in the air that are linked to various degenerative diseases. If we create products whose packaging doesn’t belong in a landfill, we can make an impact. If we can impact you to dispose of our packaging (and all other packaging) properly, we can make a HUGE impact.
Below is a break down of what our packaging is made of and how it is best to dispose of it or re-use it. Check back from time to time because we are always evolving our ideas on packaging and what is best for our products.
Macaroons: Made from 87% bio-based materials. Our macaroon packages are made from a wood fiber that composts best in a composting facility. You can put them in your backyard compost, but it will take a long time for them to break down.
Granola: This container is manufactured from PLA plastic, which is made from cornstarch instead of petroleum! The labels are made from recycled paper. This biodegradable container is a perfect, environmentally-friendly alternative to regular plastic deli containers and is easy to clean and re-use!
Chocolate Sauce: Our chocolate sauce is packaged in a re-usable glass jar.
Trailmix, Seasoned Sunflower Seeds and Bulk Ingredients: These bags are made from a recyclable plastic. If discarded in recycling bins, they can be ground up and used for other types of plastics. The end result is called REGRIND or FILLER and can be used to make plastic park benches, toys, car bumpers, parking lot stops, and more. They are also very easy to wash and re-use.
